SELEMANI
each day is a gift, not a given right
each day is a gift, not a given right
Soaring was one of my favorite things to do, drifting through air currents and riding the thermal breezes. From above, I looked much like a bird, circling about without much of a need to land but rather just fly. Oh but I was most definately not a bird. We dragons actually took offence to being called birds as the bird we came closest to was probably an eagle and still we were so much different. Not even all of us could fly and how birdlike would that be? I chuckled slightly at my thoughts, flexing the talons on my large scaly feet before tucking them back beneath my body for better streamlining. There was no doubt, I knew how to fly and direct my velvety wings but I felt slightly vulnerable up in the air, expecially around other dragons, most being larger than myself.
My true power lay in the ground and it was difficult to manipulate the earth when I was in the sky. Suddenly, an irrepressible urge to be connected with the ground washed over me. I could not resist what my heart wanted even if my mind wished to stay in the air. Deciding to make leaving the sky at least slightly enjyable, I tucked my wings into my body and tilted my head downward. Rocketing into a freefall, I stretched out my neck as if reaching for the rapidly approaching ground. My crimson eyes flashed as I watched the grasses and rocks below come frighteningly close. At the last possible moment, I snapped out my canvas wings so that they caught the air once more. Once powerful thrust slowed my movements as the last few feet between me and the earth disappeared.
Landing with a lighter thud than would be expected from my fall, I allowed my eyes to swivel in their sockets and take a good look at my surroundings. For being the hunting grounds, this land was awfully empty of any other dragons. That suited me just fine as the moment as my heart was still pounding but its ache had been quelled as I had settled myself upon the ground. Digging my talons into the earth, I felt the power that welled there, just waiting to be tapped into. Shuttering my eyes, I allowed my mind to quiet and touch that emence energy. The large rocks surrounding me shuddered for a moment before finally hurdling into the air. Opening my eyes, I gazed at the floating boulders and smirked. This was my true gift, the manipulation of the very earth itself. Smirking lightly, I let the rocks fall with a heavy thud before searching about me once more.
